Busy lately, busy spending a lot of money and trying to find ways to make more haha…Renovation is expensive, new house is expensive, new mattress is expensive, new water filter, alarm, autogate…the list goes on.
And currently servicing my car too cos the turbine is leaking, plus need regular service and change ATF etc. And the driver side window won’t open, which sucks..makes me feel like I’m driving a Proton!
Oh well what to do, short term discomfort (and being super fucking broke) for long term comfort and pleasure!
Anyway a while ago I realised how much my tastes have changed during the past 6 years living in Malaysia, when I first came here for a holiday one of my friends took me to some back alley in Petaling Street for some ‘Hokkien Mee’ and I found it both looked and tasted disgusting.
Now if you ask me to live a year without Hokkien Mee I’ll probably stab you in the eye with a chopstick.
Another thing I’ve grown to love is half-boiled eggs, the closest we have in UK I guess is soft-boiled eggs which are boiled eggs where the white is hard and yolk is runny – traditionally eaten with ‘soldiers’ which are thin slices of buttered toast. Although my mom does like her omelets and scrambled eggs quite runny…I could personally not stand it. The site of a runny egg white made me want to vomit.
But well, now I love my half boiled eggs and kaya toast! The one above is from the new Papa Rich which opened very near my house along with a Dominoes. All we need now to be complete is a KFC!
In other news, there was some horrific rain when we were heading up to Genting and it ripped half the bottom of my car off..I think it was compounded with a nasty speed-bump I kena in Jinjang earlier that day. Lucky I had some strong string in the back and a pair of scissors in my glovebox so I could whip of a McGyver solution.
It was all worth it though for the AWESOME BBQ-Addicts feast we had to celebrate the birthday of Eyeris. Just look at this food! You can buy food from them or just hire them to do your whole BBQ – join the Facebook group NAO.
The location was perfect, great company and ridiculously good food. Full details on Kim’s blog here – Awesomesauce Michael’s awesomesauce BBQ birthday party
This weekend I took my car over to my workshop in Balakong for it’s service, then headed to one of the Airtrek gangs housewarming in Kota Kemuning. Ended up drinking rather too much, the bulk being contributed by 3 bottles of Otard which HAD to be finished before we left.
The Otard made me a retard. Let’s say it didn’t end well.
Anyway it’s Monday so back to work and back to reality (and sobriety)…so that’s about all for now! Managed to catch Ip Man 2 over the weekend, AWESOME – will write more about that soon.

Hokkien mee and half boiled eggs are just the best! The bbq addicts food also looked soooooooo good!
I finally found out where the heck Balakong is! I had to go there over the weekend for a shoot there. Thank God for google maps
I was not a Hokkien mee fan when I was a kid. I preferred Cantonese flat rice noodle. As I got older, I have gotten to like it more. I am still not a fan of the “Loh Mee” serve with vinegar.
I find Pappa Rich’s Kaya toast and half boiled egg is waaaaayyy better than those at old town. Let’s hope that by them expanding, the quality still remains the same.

Mmh, where’d you recommend for good hokkien mee? I used to love the one over at D’sara Uptown but their standards have been slipping over the years. 🙁 Know of any places that are really good out there?
I think our Batmobiles’ lifespan is just (if not exactly) 5 years lah. My driver side window also stopped working on me about 8 months ago!
Last I checked brand new (have to order bla bla) RM7++ and second-hand still RM280 – RM350. Thank God for SmartTag but still a biatch when registering at guard house / swiping Season Pass / kena tahan police for speeding 0_o
Let me know if you find better deal (or better still, buy 1 free 1 for your Project Alpha friend ;D)?
suanie: Yah that’s the way!
KY: Er what…I know not what you refer to…
kimberlycun: Hahaha detox phail.
Mark: Yah it’s almost in another country LOL some good food around there tho.
Meng: I didn’t like Loh Mee either until I had a really good one, now I’ll eat it sometimes. Still not a huge fan tho.
JD: Yah much better, amongst the franchises Pappa Rich is my fav so far.
joegrimjow: The only way to live bro!
dogbone: Number 1 has to be Ahwa at Jalan 222.
Ninie Ahmad: Yah too right, but most cars are like that after 5 years bits start falling off. Yah window switch is about RM650 new from Bintang, scrap one is around RM250-350 but no guarantee how long it will last. Gonna hope mine is just the contacts and my Airtrek sifu can fix it 😀 It’s annoying for office car park and appt guardhouse arggh!
Arh…..a Hokkien Mee fan like me. 😀
lol.. I don’t like the egg yolks to be broken. I’d rather break them in my mouth with my tongue and let the yolk flow down my throat.. LOL..
I LOVE HOKKIEN MEEEE!!! I was wondering what to have for lunch and I stumbled upon your post 🙂 I am proud to be Hokkien coz we made Hokkien mee LOL and we have the best swear words!

msian in melb: Haha yah, lot’s things to miss in Malaysia.
Myhorng: Yah, otak rosak.
Lion Girl: LOL Yah, the best foods are the most sinful.
oh gosh, I missed Hokkien Mee
gone were the days I have the luxury of ordering Hokkien Mee from the back of my house!
being in Melbourne now, not one Hokkien Mee can fight with back home version!
Lisalicious: Yah pretty sure Malaysia is the only place that has some awesome Hokkien mee.
Love Hokkien Mee and also half-boiled eggs! 🙂 Funny expression of yours that if someone ask you to live without hokkien mee 🙂 Think that expresses how much you love it 😉
Zannnie: Yah 2 of the best things ever!
