The School Meme

Suan tagged me, but I still love her anyway.

How many schools did I go to?

I don’t remember exactly, I moved around quite a lot when I was young..I think 5 primary schools, secondary education I stayed in the same place though so only 1.

So all together around 6, then sixth form college and 2 universities…if you wanted to know 😉

Was I the studious nerd, or the last minute hero?

Complete last minute hero, was never into studying unless it involved messing shit up, fire, explosions, cooking or sport (Much the same as now really).

I usually used to ‘borrow’ the nerdy kids work then correct the mistakes, add a bit of flair and hand it in, usually getting a higher mark.

Was I the class ‘taiko’ or the teacher’s pet?

I was the joker of the class, always making people laugh (well the teachers weren’t laughing). I made my maths teacher cry once by cracking jokes on her, Mrs Leek.

What was the biggest rule I broke in school?

Stealing? Fighting? Suspended for Bullying? Damaging School Property? Vandalism? Skipping School? Getting Drunk?

Dunno really…let’s find some rules I didn’t break eh?

Three subjects I enjoyed.

Science.

I really loved science because I have an innate ability to see how things work, so science really made sense to me, I could work it out, I got double A* in Science GSCE without studying (top 5% in the country).

Of course I also loved blowing things up, burning things and so on 🙂 I remember once during a science experiment..we were burning magnesium which is really cool! Then I thought my aluminium pencil sharpener probably has some magnesium in it…so I’ll burn it with the bunsen burner! Which turned out to be a really bad idea, as the flashpoint for aluminium is very high, and combined with magnesium it became a burning ball of fury which promptly burnt straight through the pestle, through the heatproof mat, through the DESK and made a black hole in the floor..all of which I had to pay for. NOT A GOOD IDEA ONCE AGAIN!

Funny enough, I hated maths, which most people think you have to love to be good at Physics (not true).

Home economics.

Yeah cooking, I even loved it back then, just look at my blog it’s a testament to my love of cooking and food!

English.

Mostly English literature, not so much English language. I loved reading, I do enjoy reading classics and I enjoyed Shakespeare a lot. I still do love reading and have a large book collection. I love the British passion for literature 🙂

On a flip side, I hate History & Maths.

Three teachers that inspired me.

I inspired myself, wtf teachers?! Ok anyway…

Mr Sides. My only really memorable primary school teacher, a giant of a man that was an authoratarian but very likeable aswell. Harsh, but beat the shit out of you for a good reason, he taught sports and maths and English I think.

Mrs Coley. Encouraged me to be multi-lingual and took me on my first trip abroad at primary school without my parents to Normandy in France where I saw the Bayeaux Tapestry. Stern lady, but loved teaching. Didn’t love me so much when I etched my name on her table with a needle.

Mr Abbot. We used to call him monkey man, in a good way of course. Homeboy just loved climbing, and he was amazing at it. Sometimes when we were away on adventure trips after dinner you’d find him climbing up the side of the staircase or up the wall for practise. Used to ask the bus to drop him off on the road 10 miles before we got back to the lodge so he could jog back! Had an immense passion for English Literature and passed it on to us, a great man and a fantastic teacher. Also led some really fun adventure trips into the mountains and countryside of UK.

And I’m tagging…

All ‘the usual people’ are already tagged, yeah so I tag you people who have commented recently, you better do it..OR ELSE!11one

Moms Trip – Day 6 – Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park (Taman Rama-Rama!)

Was at a bit of a loss when it came to what to do towards the end of the holiday as Mom has been here before, and we’d done most things, so she suggested the Butterfly park (Taman Rama-Rama in Malay), and off we went.

Kuala Lumpur Buttefly Park

The entrance is about RM12-15 each, and RM2 for your camera!

It’s a lush green jungle, it’s enchanting as soon as you walk in. The Butterfly Park houses some 6,000 butterflies of over 120 species. The park is an imitation of the butterfly’s natural habitat. It includes more than 15,000 plants from 100 species that have been used to recreate a Malaysian rainforest atmosphere

Kuala Lumpur Buttefly Park

This is a huge moth, there was quite a lot of these.

Giant Moth

There is actually butterflies everywhere, not like the crappy ‘butterfly park’ in Malacca, this place has thousands, literally.

Butterfly

Obligatory ‘gay pose’.

Gay Pose

Definately a good place if you are into Macro photography.

Beautiful Butterfly

There’s a large water piece running through the middle with massive Koi and a Tortoise section.

Tortoise

Koi Pond and Fountain

Love this picture.

Butterfly Park

It also has a very nice indoor section with a massive collection of weird insects from monster beetles to weird stick insects (dead and alive variants!).

Leaf Insect

Definately a fairly interesting place to spend an afternoon 🙂

Relaxing and interesting.

The Bukit Batok Video Rumours

Seems like after poor old Tammy NYP, everyone wants to be a porn star, the next thing is the Bukit Batok video, which I don’t even know if it exists yet.

Singaporeans again, searching madly for a homemade sex video. (Apparently 13% of all Singaporeans are said to have sex in front of a camera).

Everyone is searching for the “Bukit Batok video”, which alledgedly shows two people getting it on in a park, but rummor has it that it’s a hoax.

I have a feeling aswell it doesn’t even exist it’s just a rumour to garner someone some more traffic or exposure or whatever.

There are some others rumoured to be floating around, like one filmed in an airport and another in a bathtub.

From the paper:

Those circulating the clips have even named files according to where they were filmed.

A two-minute clip is “airport” while another is tagged “Bukit Batok”.

About three weeks ago, a 17-year-old poly student lost her cellphone containing a sex video she made with her boyfriend. The video quickly gained notoriety and was downloaded by Net users as far [sic] as the US.

The article at flickr.

Happy hunting.

Moms Trip – Day 5 – Dinner at Sate/Satay Kajang Haji Samuri (PJ Uptown)

Sometimes you just gotta eat Satay, I mean a lot of Satay, like a whole freaking plate of the stuff and nothing else!

So there’s little place I know in PJ Uptown that serves some mean Satay, it’s proper Kajang Satay without the pain in the ass of actually going to Kajang!

It’s called Sate Kajang Haji Samuri and it’s in the row of shops behind Maybank in PJ Uptown (Just off the LDP before TTDI), the Maybank faces the LDP, so it’s just behind the first row of shops, so turn in and make a left behind the first row of shops it’s around there somewhere, pretty easy to find with its big yellow sign!

Kajang Sate

For the Genuine Taste of Kajang Sate!

The Peanut Sauce and the Chilli comes seperately so you can make it as spicy as you like, a great idea if you ask me.

Satay Peanut Sauce

And of course loads of Satay!!one

Kajang Satay

Tender beef, juicy chicken and not so great rabbit, sadly there was no Perut (Cow Stomach) it was sold out.

Lovely fresh cucumber, they also have ketupat but I didn’t have any.

Cucumber

They also have mutton and deer, which I haven’t tried yet and probably won’t.

Kajang Satay

Best Satay of the pwn kthx!

ZOMG I PWNED EM111one

Yes my Mom pwned em all, with my help of course, and loved every bite.

I recommend heading down there right now and munching some bad ass Satay!

Haji Samuri Satay

Haji Samuri, you da man!

Movie Review – In The Bedroom – Intense

In The Bedroom

The Fowlers are a normal family in Maine. Matt (Tom Wilkinson) is the town doctor and loves to fish, his wife, Ruth (Sissy Spacek), is the school’s choir leader, and their son, Frank (Nick Stahl), is home from his first year of college. Frank is in love with Natalie (Marisa Tomei), a young mother who isn’t quite divorced yet from her ex-husband, Richard Strout (William Mapothor), whose family runs the local cannery. It’s makes Richard’s blood run cold to see his wife running around with another man.

I’ve been meaning to watch this for a while too, 5 oscar/golden globe nominations in 2001 so it must be good right?

It’s good to watch a film sometimes with no expectations or no idea of the plot, which I did. I expected it to be a decent film, perhaps not to my taste but that was all.

And well..it was intense, I mean seriously intense, sad, emotional, angry, fucked up, just plain old intense.

The film is a masterful character study of small town life in America with amazing performances from all the leading characters (wilkinson, spacek, stahl and tomei).

Sissy Spacek puts in a haunting slightly crazy performance as the mother of Stahl, her age showing, perfectly suiting the role she was playing.

Tom Wilkinson showed himself as an amazingly versatile actor once again, having done comedies like Full Monty, proves he can play a dramatic lead man in a serious film.

It’s a fairly slow paced film and pretty long, but somehow, it keeps you riveted to the screen, even though there is nothing ‘going to happen’ it just takes you through an emotional rollercoaster, you share the pain and anguish, the anger, the joy..the realisation.

It’s a fairly bleak movie, but it is very much worth watching, I’d recommend it if you are in the mood.

A very well acted 9/10.

Moms Trip – Day 5 – An Evening at KLCC Petronas Twin Towers

So after our trip to Cambodia, we were back in KL, wondering what to do.

After a day doing nothing much, sorting out the pictures and taking them to be processed, tidying up the appartment and lunch at Wong Kok Chan Char Teng..it was time to head into KL for a drive around and check out the Chinese New Year lights.

Then of course, as tourists do I thought we could go to KLCC garden, see the fountains and have a beer at San Francisco Steak House, so that’s what we did! (I have to say they had the lousiest greasiest crappiest onion rings and potatoe skins I’ve EVER had)

KLCC Garden

It was actually totally packed in there, people all over the place, luckily I chose a place to sit that pretty much masked out the hoards of commoners drinking cans of coke and littering the floor like their father owned the place.

KLCC Garden

It was a pleasant evening, stayed there until the fountain show was done, very relaxing taking in the KL night views, I meant to take my Mom to Luna Bar, but I ran out of time.

The fountain show is very nice and is worth watching now and then.

KLCC Fountain

My Mom was very happy to be there 🙂

Mom at KLCC Fountain

This is my favourite Fountain Shot, it’s just right 🙂

Beautiful Fountain Shot

And of course the cheesy typical KLCC shot from the base.

KLCC Petronas Towers

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing evening with a visiting friend or relative.

I don’t get why we pay for Tolls?

Most the tolls still around have already paid for the roads they are on, like LDP toll was supposed to be decomissioned 2 years ago.

And why do we pay road tax, and THEN TOLLS?

For shitty roads with holes in and bridges that fall down.

Surely with the 4.4billion they are saving from reducing the petrol subsidy they could remove tolls?

Top is cynical (Is that really a bad thing?), then self-satisfied and smug. Then childish, boastful, impatient and vulgar. There is a thin line between confident and arrogance eh?

You can also check out my Personal DNA.

I found this one very accurate, I am a cautious leader 🙂

You’re not set on one way of doing things, and you often have the skills and persistence to find innovative ways of facing challenges.

You approach problems in an analytical way, not getting caught up in your own emotions. You are an independent thinker, not wedded to the preferences of others.

Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.

You have respect for the natural order of things, and a good sense of right and wrong.

Investigating the world through observation, as opposed to interaction, is preferable to you.

You sometimes wish that others would be more like you–less hindered by their emotions, more respectful, and more private.

March is the Month of GOODNESS, Detox, Gym and Diet

So….

Since I quit smoking (btw check this quit smoking site out), was in Brunei for 5 weeks paying fat tax, then my mom was here and it was Chinese new year…too many people have been saying I’ve put on weight.

Cambodia was good excercise and got me back in shape…round is a shape right?!

So I’ve decided (seen as though some of my trousers are a little tight now)….it’s probably time to lose a bit of weight.

I’m around 114kg now, which is not ideal, I’d prefer to be around 105-110kg, weight is not much of an issue though..tone is!

I don’t really have much fat, apart from this weird thing resembling a michelin tyre around my waist.

I don’t like it, no not at all.

So this month my vow has been for the whole of March..

  1. Eat Less (Smaller portions, less carbo)
  2. Try to avoid oily/greasy/high cholesterol food (I have some meals of just veges, and usually now just half a bowl of rice)
  3. No Fizzy drinks (One of my worst downfallings, I have a sweet tooth)
  4. Cut down on alchohol (I tend to drink something alchoholic at least once a day)
  5. Go to the Gym EVERY day
  6. Drink more water
  7. Try to avoid anything very unnatural (Lot’s of colouring/flavouring/sweetening)

So for example instead of teh o ais limau I have limau kosong ais, instead of Roti Canai for breakfast I have Roti Bakar..

Instead of a massive meal for dinner, I just have a bowl of Tom Yam soup, or a bihun noodle soup, or McD Bubur (Chicken Porridge) etc.

It’s been quite difficult, but I’ve gotten into the flow of excercising at least.

I’ve been 8 out of 9 days so far in March, missed one day as I feel asleep one night after work and awoke the next morning…the exercise getting to me I think.

I’ve gotten a little fitter already though, I noticed yesterday on the cross training machine, I did the same program, on a higher level with a lower average heartrate, which is nice!

My program has been something like 15 minutes warm up on x-trainer (level 9), 45 minutes of resistance/free weights training (bicepts, tricepts, lats, stomach, chest). Then 25 minutes on the bike, level 7.

Seems to be going ok so far, slowly increasing the amount of weight on the resistance machines and the levels on the cardio machines.

Hopefully by the end of the month there will be a noticeable difference.

Wish me luck!
