Plaza Damas – Paddington House of Pancakes

I think there’s one in the Curve too, but the one I go to is in Plaza Hartamas/Plaza Damas.

Open Your Heart

Open your heart, have some pancakes? WTF? Yeah I know..

It’s a nice light clean looking place with good service and reasonable prices, again not a place you’d have lunch every day unless you are loaded.

Paddington House of Pancakes

They have a massively extensive menu with more different types of pancakes than you could ever imagine!

Paddington Menu

Normal pancakes, pankoeks, blitzes, galettes? Yeah I didn’t know what any of them were either..

The story of Paddington House of Pancakes.

Story of Paddington

The pancakes come in a good serving size with nice garnish and range from about RM14-30 depending how extravagant you go, they also have sweet pancakes to finish off.

This is the full house, something like a full breakfast pancakes with sausage, beans and egg.

Full House

This is the Amsterdam Pankoek, yeah looks something like a pizza, delicious.

Amsterdam Pankoek

And this one was mine, something like a chicken burger pancake, very nice too.

Chicken Burger Pancake

I definately recommend checking out Paddington House of Pancakes if you haven’t.

Places to Eat in Mon’t Kiara – Marmalade – Best Frittata EVA!

I don’t go to Marmalade too often for lunch as it is kind of expensive, but it’s really worth it if you just got paid or you want to treat yourself, the food is very fresh and delicious.

They serve some kind of fusion food with italian, english and mediteranean influences.

If you want to get to Marmalade, it’s just across the road from Plaza Mon’t Kiara, next to a convenience store.

Marmalade Menu

The menu is pretty varied, they have pies, salads, burgers, sandwiches all sorts. Some very unique stuff too.

The Frittata is really fantastic, it’s kind of like an omlette, but much much thicker and chock full of big mushrooms and ham!

Frittata

It’s very filling too, totally recommend this one.

Frittata

It’s a nice place, it has a very clean and sunny decor, nice pine furniture and bright colours with a childrens play area in the corner. It’s quite often packed at lunch time and you have to wait a while for a seat.

Marmalade

I really love the pies too, gorgeous home made taste with lumpy chunky mashed potatoe and some good gravy.

This is the chicken pie!

Marmalade Chicken Pie

I find the beef pie a little dry, but it’s still very good.

Marmalade Beef Pie

They also have a very nice selection of authentic home made desserts! Reminds me of the stuff my Mom makes.

Desserts

This is the rather tasty Lemon Meringue Pie

Lemon Meringue Pie

The drinks are lovely too (My favourite is the Daystarter) but rather expensive at RM8-9 each.

The meals around around RM12-18 each, which is pretty reasonable for the quality of the food and the size of the portions.

Hmm perhaps it’s a Marmalade lunch day today!

The Amazing Growth of Blogs and Blogging

I have to say I do use Technorati quite a lot, mostly as an ego tool with the nice watchlist

Da I can watch “Shaolin Tiger” “ShaolinTiger” and “https://www.shaolintiger.com” to see who is linking me or talking about me.

They are doing a great job of tracking the movements in the global blog arena, how many new blogs are formed, how often people update and how popular certain blogs are.

They do seem to have some capacity issues lately though as I get ‘too busy’ messages quite frequently and their “Last updated” was totally messed up for quite a while (It showed this blog as last updated 198 days ago..when I update it pretty much daily).

Darren Rowse of Problogger even bitched about it in January.

What I am looking at today though is the quarterly summary they do, which shows the HUGE increase of bloggers, and the persistency rate has also gone up.

What Technorati have found is that the number of blogs doubles roughly every 6 months! There are 60 times, yes 60 TIMES more blogs than there were 3 years ago (Technorati currently tracks 35.3 Million weblogs).

Technorati currently tracks over 75,000 new weblogs created every day, which means that on average, a new weblog is created every second of every day – and 19.4 million bloggers (55%) are still posting 3 months after their blogs are created. That’s an increase both absolute and relative terms over just 3 months ago, when only 50.5% or 13.7 million blogs were active. In other words, even though there’s a reasonable amount of tire-kicking going on, blogging continues to grow as a habitual activity.

In addition to that, about 3.9 million bloggers update their blogs at least weekly.

Some pretty interesting statistics.

Beef Ball Noodles at Restaurant Mee Ho Kee – Desa Aman Puri

Now and then I feel like eating some good beef ball noodles, and well luckily I know just the place, about 5 minutes from where I live in Desa Aman Puri – Kepong, kinda like B’dr Sri Damansara 1-5 area, just before Taman Ehsan Jaya.

They have beef noodles with all the beef bits (brisket, stomach, tendons etc), beef balls, beef lo shui fan and pork if you really don’t fancy beef.

Restaurant Mee Ho Kee

I’ve had beef ball noodles, and the losi fan as they call it, both are very good!

This is what I’d usually have, the mince beef noodles with beef balls only, I don’t like all those weird beef bits..

Beef Ball Noodles

The beefballs are very nice, have to say.

Mee Ho Kee Beefballs

Of course eaten with plenty of the yummy chilli sauce.

Chili Sauce

They’ve been in the newspapers a couple of times, so must be decent right?!

Mee Ho Kee Newspaper

My favourite, the mince beef lo shui fan!

Lo Shui Fan

Here’s a map, yeah luckily for you, I DIDNT DRAW IT.

Laundry Bar @ The Curve – The Launch – April 17th

So last night…it was Monday night and I was at the opening of the Laundry Bar at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, just next to Fitness first, it was a dual opening Italianies and a retro urban bar called “Laundry”.

Which is indeed an odd name, as many people walking past proclaimed “Why this Dobi so big one?

So basically it was loads of booze provided by Laundry and loads of food provided by Italianies? A sure winner indeed.

Got there around 9.30pm starving to death hoping there was some food, bumped into TV Smith and Midnite Lily, also the writer of Kaki Cucuk Langit a very good blog (Yeah go read it now, now now) and another fella who’s birthday is the same day as KinkyBlueFairy, muteaudio.

Laundry Bar Peeps

Also apparently I saw KinkyPugKevin and he saw me…but er well we didn’t talk.

It’s a nice looking place, I label it retro urban, unfaced cement walls, shiny aluminiumish things hanging around and a nice wooden/plush seating area at the back.

Laundry Bar

It was of course very packed, with the free beer and food, Malaysians all come out the woodwork!

The bar staff did a commendable job of keeping everyones thirst quenched.

Laundry Barman

The beer did just keep coming…and coming and coming!

Laundr Bar Beer

Unfortunately the first few rounds of food were provided with no cutlery…so we kind of had to make do..

Finger Food

And as you can see, it isn’t really your typical finger food.

This creamy cheesy tomatoey chicken thing was REALLY FREAKING GOOD, sinful, but good.

Chicken Thing

Yes food, more food and more food, there was some awesome meatball things in a creamy sauce with some tomatoe garnish and a big slice of mushroom in the middle, those were nice.

Here we have some prawn pasta, lasagna and the creamy cheesy chicken thing. All good apart from the Lasagna, which was too salty..a little slip on the seasoning there.

Laundry Food

The Tiramisu was really good, definately the best one I’ve had in Malaysia so far, it actually tasted like Tiramisu should and had the requisite alchohol in it 🙂

Laundry Tiramisu

Then as we were about to burst…along came the most enourmous peice of strawberry cheescake, which was also fantastic.

Laundry Cheescake

Yeah they just kept bringing more food after that, with some kind of caesar salad with calamari on top.

Calamari Caesar Salad

Me eating and Kimberlycun pouting.

Me and Kim

I did appreciate the effort they put into the decor, gave the place a nice feel.

Pillow

I’ve got purple shiny disco balls!

Shiny Disco Balls

There was a really cool live band playing some old skool retro ragga/reggae kind of tunes, nice music, great singers.

After that, to my absolute surprise the DJ busted open the set with some hardcore drum and bass, I was like ZOMG WTF LOLPLS I LOVE DnB.

After that came some Funky House and some UK represented 2 step Garage.

Laundry Bar

Laundry bar, it was teh fun.

I shall go again (especially because it’s like 5 minutes from my place and they should give me a lifetime of free booze for writing such nice things).

Laundry Bar does have a rarely updated blog here.

Eating in SS2 – Restoran Taiwan Noodle House Pork Noodles

One of my favourite foods in the world evar!

I used to spend my whole life in SS2 in the cybercafe Horus playing endless hours of DOTA or in one of the nearby eateries, more often than not across the street at Misai having a teh o ais limai and a plate of Indomee Goreng, or a Giraffe Burger!

Other than that I used to often eat at this place, Restoran Taiwan Noodle House for their amazing Pork Noodles (make sure you order dry), their dumplings and chicken curry is also recommended.

Restoran Taiwan Noodle House

I always wash it down with a Jumbo Starfruit juice, helps me fill up my stomach…rather than whacking 2 portions of noodles, which I would love to do 😉

Starfruit Juice

This is the star of the show, Taiwanese Pork Chop Noodles, yum yum yum yum!

Taiwan Pork Chop Noodles

The noodles are lovely and smooth with some great chilli paste and a perfectly crispy pork chop.

The pork is really delicious.

Taiwan Pork Chop

The dumplings.

Taiwan Noodle House Dumplings

The food is pretty cheap, about 6 bucks for the noodles, I recommend it highly!

If you are in SS2 perhaps give Wong Kok Chan Char Teng or KTZ a miss and try out this place, you won’t regret it.

It’s amazing what Photoshop can do in skilled hands.

Before:

KLCC Twin Towers

vs.

After:

KLCC Twin Towers Fixed

Best appreciated in large format.

If you understand Photoshop at all, here’s what was done:

1- Go into LAB mode.
2- Duplicate background.
3- Use “smart blur” and “surface blur” at different settings on each channel to get rid of the noise. You will be losing details.
4- Go back to RGB mode.
5- Adjust the opacity of the blurred layer to bring back some details from the original. You can even use the eraser to work on problem areas.
6- Create two “Photo Filter” layers.
7- Set one of these two adjustment layers to “Overlay.” This will give you deeper shadows and change colors all at once.
8- Play with the opacity of the two adjustment layers.
9- Duplicate the blue area from the towers’ tips.
10- Use “Gaussian Blur” on this new layer. The towers and the sky are glowing but it’s too much.
11- Change opacity. Now it’s better and more natural.
12- Add another adjustment layer, this time it will be “Curves.”
13- Make a slight S curve.
14- Flatten
15- Sharpen

Deadman Walking – Citibank Indonesia

A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00.

A family member placed a call to Citibank:
Family Member: “I am calling to tell you that she died in January.”
Citibank: “The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.”
Family Member: “Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.”
Citibank: “Since it is two months past due, it already has been.”
Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?”
Citibank: “Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!”
Family Member: “Do you think God will be mad at her?”
Citibank: “Excuse me?”
Family Member: “Did you just get what I was telling you…the part about her being dead?”
Citibank: “Sir, you’ll have to speak to my supervisor.”

Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member: “I’m calling to tell you, she died in January.”
Citibank: “The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.
Family Member: “You mean you want to collect from her estate?”
Citibank: (Stammer) “Are you her lawyer?”
Family Member: “No, I’m her great nephew.” (Lawyer info given)
Citibank: “Could you fax us a certificate of death?”
Family Member: “Sure.” (fax number is given)

After they get the fax:
Citibank: “Our system just isn’t setup for death. I don’t know what more I can do to help.”
Family Member: “Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. I don’t think she will care.”
Citibank: “Well, the late fees and charges do still apply.”
Family Member: “Would you like her new billing address?”
Citibank: “That might help.”
Family Member: “Odessa Memorial Cemetery, Highway 129, Plot Number 69.”
Citibank: “Sir, that’s a cemetery!”
Family Member: “What do you do with dead people on your planet?

It’s a crazy world.

(Yes I know this is on Snopes).
