The Jakarta Trip – With Pictures!

So here are my observations and pictures from Jakarta..

Warning long post, lot’s of pictures.

Am back in the land of the civilised now…

So Sunday night I got home late and packed my things before crashing out..

As I mentioned the airport was very ‘rural’…and empty

I arrived at the hotel, a modest affair, the Arcadia (under Ibis)

The room was normal

But the bathroom was weird, it had a rather phallic ‘horn’ sticking out of the mirror, horny mirror?

Another interesting thing I noticed was the ashtrays were full of Coffee Beans!

I did notice something weird though, all the lifts here stink of some kind of overpowering air freshener, it reminded me of the librarian back in highschool who used to overpower everyone with the smell of lavender oil..

In some of the lifts is was almost too pungent for me to handle, I felt faint..I mean people there don’t smell THAT bad, what’s it all about? If anyone knows, please enlighten me.

I caught a good view and Sunrise from the hotel when I got up at 5am by mistake..

I tried the local Root Beer..

It looks very similar to the one here (Frost), but it’s not as good!

Anyway A&W with ice cream is still best in a glass mug…the A&W in a can is vile.

So the next evening as I mentioned I wondered out to get some food..as you can see something like Bangkok, or Chinatown in KL.

A couple of people mentioned Bakso, so I looked for Super Bakso, instead I found Raja Bakso (King)…giant beef balls in a nice oniony clear soup, usually served with rice noodles (bihun/vermicelli).

Along with that I had the famous Teh Botol..

Cost: 8000 Rupiah (A measly 4 rm).

On my way out I got cornered by a tour-guide who went on and on and on and proudly demonstrated his cockney accent, yeah nice one fella..

After that I had to try some Satay, as you do in Indonesia, it was everywhere, so I sat down at a roadside stall with a good view for people watching, must check out the local scenery you know 😀

The only thing was, it felt like smoking was more healthy than breathing normally, what with the charcoal smoke from the stay grill and the fumes from the cars, bikes and bajajs, it was pretty putrid.

The satay was GOOD though, I had lamb and chicken and teh botol ais..

Cost: 10,500 Rupiah (5rm)

Lamb was quite a bit more expensive than chicken…there was also a small chilli on the plate, I can take spicy food, so I thought looks ok, I proceeded to eat it, following that I proceeded to piss from the nose and cry for a while, it was good! No really it felt like there was a large hole burning through my cheek..

My colleague was again surprised at how I managed to get everything at bottom local prices, not inflated at all..

Here you can see a trio of Bajaj’s in action..

Another thing I noticed is here is the predominance of Dunkin Donuts, I mean there are a few here in KL, but all within the confines of shopping centres, in Jakarta they were everywhere, on virtually every street corner, every 2-3 blocks you pass, you’ll see a Dunkin Donuts, weird..

As most people know the traffic in Jakarta is horrible, you tend to see stuff like people pushing small carts piled up with 40 used rubber tyres on them (quite a site), people walking down the middle of the street selling newspapers and magazines, people walking from car to car playing whistles or banjos, when you eat you’ll be plagued by people selling books, small children with some kinds of certificate asking for money and shoe shine boys..

People really do mostly smoke Kretek aswell, apart from those happening chicks, their ciggy of choice seems to be Marloboro Menthol.

Went to one of the high class shopping malls to pick up some snacks and bumped into a load of models just leaving a show, sorry was too stunned to take any pics (Yeah tall with boobs and good looks, hmm).

We headed off to Hard Rock Cafe to have a beer, they had a live band on who were really good (Phillipinos, no surprise there), and had some beers, a jumbo platter, and some more beers 🙂

Yeah the female singer was hot!

Another habit of Indonesians, is more extreme than Malaysian parking, it’s very common for them to double park there, blocking other cars in…

But everyone parks with their handbrake off…so you quite often see groups of people pushing cars here and there so they can exit..interesting eh.

After that I went for a tour around, checked out the national monument, national museum, china town (and the red light district) and a few other places, even saw the local police buying pirated DVD’s at one of the stalls 🙂 Indonesia apparently has the highest corruption index for Asia (and perhaps in the world?). You pay/tip for everything here, my colleague said if the beggars are very insistent you have to give them something or they might scratch your car..

Went down Jalan Jaksa aswell, backpackers haven, loads roach-ridden hotels and cheap bars with the white dudes hooking up with LBFMs (Little Brown Fuck Machines). There was a whole bunch of dodgy Nigerians selling coke aswell, not a place to go if you aren’t street smart..

Also not such a great place to go with the current political climate as the extremists and fundementalists know Jalan Jaksa is where they can find all the aussies and yanks..

After that headed off for some more food, I was still stuffed, but well gotta try everything..

Another road-side stall, but at least this one wasn’t like sitting in an exhaust pipe.

The Nasi Goreng Kambing was awesome (Lamb Fried Rice).

With a nice plate of condiments..

So the next day I took class then headed back, grabbed a taxi and endured the infamous Jakarta traffic, huge wide roads, but traffic chaos…there are loads of roads that split into 2 seperated lanes (like going the wrong way up a dual carriageway), round-a-bouts which you can round either way? Man it’s confusing..

I bought a load of indo snacks back for my homeys including nice stuff like chicken intestines 😀 Hope they enjoy them..

I would like to spend a few days here on holiday some time checking out the scenes, pretty cheap now with Air Asia. Of course I’d like to venture outside Jakarta and check out the rest of the country, supposed to be a beautiful place.

I did notice a language difference aswell, even though I’m quite ok with Bahasa Melayu, I had real trouble understanding them…the accent is quite different due to the Dutch rather than English influence, some basic words like Orange are totally different (Oren in Malay, Jeruk in Indonesian).

That’s about it..I’ve added the Photo Gallery for the trip just now.

BTW Free booze tonight at Espanda (used to be Emporium), might see you there.

Don’t forget THE PARTY OF THE YEAR, tommorow night in SS3.

Enjoy the weekend, I will.

RSS Top 55 – Best Blog & RSS Submission Sites

I did post about blogging tools before, but a friend just sent me this yesterday, it’s a very useful list indeed if you wish to get syndicated and get a larger readership for your little corner of cyberspace.

As more and more people get involved with the Internet and as more Web sites, blogs, news services and other online resources continue to grow in number and variety it becomes increasingly important to maintain high visibility and exposure for the content being generated by closely following the major distribution media.

Until now the web was populated by Web sites and other HTML-based content pages, and the main vehicle for reaching content has been the large use of major search engines and directories.

As a rapidly increasing number of content sources, new and old, migrate or add RSS as a key distribution channel, and as more people utilize RSS newsreaders and aggregators to keep themselves informed, the ability to maintain high exposure and visibility is gradually shifted from a complete attention to major search engines and content optimization techniques to an increasing awareness of RSS feed directories and search tools. https://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/

I suggest submitting to at least the top 20 if you haven’t already.

On top of that I’ve also started using Blogshares, which is quite a fun game to play, it’s a virtual share market based on the value of links and other factors.

You can see my blog rating here: Listed on BlogShares

I’ve also been using Malaysia Top Blogs, for the locals, I think I managed to retain 3rd place for some time, that’s about my highest, usually I’m around 7-15 depending on my traffic (it works on unique hits.

There’s also HotorNot for blogs..

Is my Blog HOT or NOT?

Kinda pointles, but fun.

I also find sitemeter good for some free simple statistics:

https://www.sitemeter.com/

Will post Jakarta update and pictures soon 🙂

Have fun, and see you at the party this weekend! Yeah!

Sleep of the dead..

Man I think I was tired, got back yesterday about 6pm and took a short 2 hour nap, ended up being a little longer than 2 hours and woke up around 7am this morning..

No pics yet sorry 😉 Will endevour not sleep through the whole trip and take some soon.

I tried grabbing some Wireless action in the hotel using Netstumbler but I think all the access points are filtered by MAC address as I can see them and they aren’t using WEP keys but I can’t connect or get an IP address.

The net is super slow here..even the ‘broadband‘ it makes Stimx seem good (which sucks compared to the DSL I had in UK).

Jakarta is something like a cross between Bangkok (Busy, run-down, full of traffic and pollution) and KL (Shiny, tall buildings, traffic and some trees) depending on which part of the city you are in.

They have some kinda local Tuk-tuks here called bajaj (prounounced Bah Jay) and everyone loves to honk their horns, not as bad as India or Vietnam though where all you can hear are horns. People tend to drive a little slower here and with more determination, everyone just goes, no matter what is in front or to the side of them, there’s been so many near misses I’ve got used to it already and the buses here are just insane, they drive at least double the speed of anyone else and have huge reinforced steel ploughs on the front to bash cars out the way if they are dumb enough to get in front of the bus..

There are some top quality shopping centres here as expected (Ferragamo, Gucci, Versace, Boss, Bvlgari etc..) But not really my kinda places, I’m more a Sungei Wang person than KLCC (Pirated stuff, gadgets and techno music).

I think I’ll head out tonight and check out some scenery.

The guy here was kinda surprised when I told him how much I paid for the chicken noodles (4000rupiah, or less than 2RM) as he said that’s like very bottom local price, perhaps it was because I spoke to the guy in Malay not English..(Yes I can say berapa?)

Anyway kinda starving now, glad it’s not too long to go ’til lunch-time 😉

Report again soon, when I get chance.

Jakarta Trip

Am in Jakarta now and my Internet access will be limited as the hotels here don’t have broadband in the rooms..

I arrived last night to a typically disorderly immigration check-in, they have imposed a new regulation where you need to purchase a visa on arrival for 25USD.

Also Asia Air only allows 15kg check-in luggage, so I had to pay for 11KG excess, wasn’t too expensive though, only 12RM per kilo.

The flight was delayed slightly (normal for Air Asia), but not too bad.

At least the pilot managed to land correctly this time (I’ve been on Air Asia a couple of times where they have missed the runway and had to go around again).

The currency here is pretty confusing…I changed RM300 and ended up with 650,000 rupiah..for 400+ bucks you can be a millionaire.

I got mischarged in the airport when I had just arrived as I was sleepy and didn’t think to calculate the price, they charged me double I think…

Was pretty tired last night so just chilled in the hotel, I have to say the TV here is much, much better than Malaysia..

Woke up this morning way too early (miscalculated the time), I called my colleague at 9am (so I thought) to ask where he was, he duly informed me it was only 7am…I had been sitting in the foyer since 6am (which I thought was 8am..)

So I went and had some breakfast….lovely Chicken Noodles, haven’t had anything like that in Malaysia before.

Anyway have to start class now, will post pictures when I get back probably..

Enjoy your monday COS I BEEN AWAKE SINCE 5-FUCKING-AM!

Fred Durst Sex Video & Paris Hilton Phone Hack

Now this is already passe, but seen as though I just saw a new story about Fred Durst, I thought I’d write something about it..

You’d better be careful what pictures you take with your cellphone and you’d better be careful what videos you keep on your PC (if they involve yourself).

Recently Fred Durst (Lead singer of Limp Bizkit) has claimed that ‘Hackers stole his sex video‘, no they didn’t steal his pr0n collection, the took a video of him humping from his personal computer.

The Smoking Gun has obtained part of Durst’s complaint against various websites that posted portions of Durst’s sex romp with a former girlfriend. The document states that the US Secret Service has kicked off an “elaborate investigation” into the Hilton Hacking and Durst’s home movie mess. The singer, and apparent amateur filmmaker, is seeking up to $80m for having his privates put on the web without consent, according to The Smoking Gun.

You can see the video in question at Gawker here:

https://heavylite.heavy.com/durstvideo/ *EXPLICIT*

(but you need quicktime)

The Smoking Gun covered the full story here:

https://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0304051durst1.html

I guess that’s what you get for being a dumbass and not keeping your sensitive information in an encrypted container..and believe me, that really is sensitive..

“The only copy of the Video was on the hard drive of Plaintiff’s computer, and was subsequently stolen therefrom”

If you wanna learn more about encrypting your shit, you can check here:

https://www.security-forums.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=41

This follows shortly after the whole Paris Hilton thing with the T-mobile Sidekick.

It pretty much looks like it was the T-mobile website that was hacked, but it shows you, don’t go and keep your sensitive information/pictures online..

The information landed online just days after hacker Nicolas Jacobsen pled guilty to a single charge of intentionally accessing a protected computer and recklessly causing damage. Jacobsen was arrested by US authorities last October, but had had access to T-Mobile’s servers for more than a year. He reportedly amused himself by accessing US Secret Service email, and raiding other Sidekick users’ accounts.

T-mobile hacker pleads guilty..

Some people got pretty pissed.

While Paris must by now be used to being overexposed online, many of the people in her little black book were less than pleased with the leak. According to the Drudge Report, one starlet said “I gave her my number after we met in Miami, I did not know she f**king kept it on her cellphone!”

Reality TV star Victoria Gotti told New York Daily News that she had received over 100 phone calls in two hours. “It’s driving me insane,” she said.

We all know about the Paris Hilton Sex Video too (I just discovered there is a 37 minute version)…so it’s nothing new for her boobies and humping pics to be splashed all over the web. I mean that’s nothing new really, remember Pam and Tommy back in the day?

Good information here: https://www.parishiltonsmobile.com/

More info here: https://gawker.com/news/culture/paris-hilton/

This reminds of a friend of mine that used to work in a cybercafe, he once found a floppy disk in a machine and he sent me the pictures contained within, it was some fairly hot chick doing a seductive strip tease in front of a webcam, 20-30 pictures from 3 different days (judging by her different clothes). Pretty interesting stuff.

Anyway, be careful what you do with your information..information has a desire to be free, and someone will be willing to give it a helping hand.

Bored at your desk?

Just like everyone else, waiting for Monday to pass so we can get on with the rest of the week.

While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

Now, while doing this, draw the number “6” in the air with your right hand.

Your foot will change direction and there’s nothing you can do about it!

Now, that really bugs you doesn’t it?

Zoukfest – The Aftermath

So yesterday along with 8000 other ravers we all headed up to Genting for Zoukfest, the event of the year with people coming from Indonesia, Thailand and the Phillipines to join our party.

We all headed up in separate cars after lunch, God was first to reach I think along with his friends. Got there around 3.30-ish..

It was a nice day but freaking hot, seems like the haze has blown away and the blue skies are back, we passed batu caves on the way there.

The traffic was quite heavy with all the normal genting visitors plus the hordes of eager ravers in their Ah Beng wira’s.

We parked deep in the bowels of first world hotel, something like 8 floors down. KY the original parking lucker found parking just as they drove in, as always.

When we arrived the whole place was packed with funky dressed ravers, you know camoflague trousers, some punks, people with so many earrings you can’t feasibly count them, normal stuff (for ravers) and every Ah Beng hairstyle under the sun, saw some awesome mohicans.

There was loads suckers that hadn’t got tickers earlier so where all jammed up towards the ticket office trying to get the last few before they sold out.

We went for some food whilst those in our group who didn’t have tickets tried to get some.

I didn’t take any pictures while we were eating, because well I was busy eating.

After that we hung around, found out who was where and what was going on, we decided to head on inside around 9pm as if we went in later, the queues to get in would be hideous.

It was fairly busy when we went in, but not overly packed, it was misty, windy, damp and cold though!

Of course when it’s cold, the girls always get colder first, so I invite them to keep warm by getting it on with each other, yeah!

They had some stupid rule that you couldn’t take cameras in, so they wanted to confiscate mine, I was like no fucking way man, then he was like ok, take 1 battery out, I said I can’t…they are rechargeable, he was like hmmkay, don’t take any pictures then, I was like yeah for sure…bwahahah

When we arrived it was already pretty full, probably more than half already, but it was still nice, plenty of space to move and dance and sit if you felt like it.

It was pretty hard to take pictures because of the mist, if you took a picture with flash, you just got a white haze, and nothing much else.

This is an edited picture of a part of our group (impossible to get everyone together, I think with friends and friends friends, there was around 100+).

There was two main areas, house/trance and RnB, the RnB area was a bit cheesy for me, but it got good just as we left 🙁 (Chemical brothers, Prodigy, Beastie Boys etc.)

I stayed in the house area most of the night.

Kim alternated between the 2 areas with FireAngel, man FA dances like triple the speed of anyone else, when she dances everyone just stops and looks at her like WTF?!?

It was also hard to take clear pics with no flash and longer exposure because of the ridiculously powderful speaker systems which vibrated your whole body, including your eye balls.

So most of the pics either came out a) With fog or b) Not clear due to the vibration

The above is no flash, so a bit blurry, the below is with flash, so a bit misty.

This was the view from the floor when chilling, happy ravers everywhere.

God was looking cool as always

And the Faggot, well looking like a complete faggot

The live singer during one of the later sets was awesome, I think she said her name was Jody, most people didn’t even realise she was live she was so good, I just happen to be tall enough to have noticed her 🙂

We headed out about 2.30 I think as a few people weren’t feeling well (probably a combination of the cold and wet air and the overpowering bass from the huge walls of speakers), it was totally packed by then with people still flooding in. We hung out outside starbucks for an hour or so and left about 3.30.

Took us about 30 mins just to get out of the carpark because of was full of fog, visibility was about 2 metres.

Then the traffic outside was hell, so took about 45 minutes to get off the top of Genting, then down the hill with the horrible visibility. Eventually got home safely around 5am and passed out.

It was rocking, haven’t been to a rave for a long time. The main thing about Genting is you don’t have to worry about overheating..

And they save money as they don’t have to buy smoke machines, you can see the lasers in the mist.

The moral of the story is, if you want to go somewhere, buy tickets before hand…don’t ummm, hmmm, arrr, dunno. Have some balls, make up your mind and buy tickets. On the night there were touts outside selling tickets for 150 a pop, makes me wish I’d brought another 10 to sell. 100+ profit per ticket, sweet 1k for 10 minutes work.

Have to go to a wedding dinner now anyway so I’ll sign off, hope everyone got home safely.

Peace.

The busiest weekend, Fat things and Zoukfest…

Went to bangsar last night, haven’t been there for ages, not really my kind of place but well, when it’s a friends birthday you go where they so desire..

Still seems like a sub-continent of India, but then it’s been like that for a long time I think.

Bumped into my CEO there too at the Harley shop hanging out with his new bike with a 1.8 litre engine…that’s just ridiculous. Seriously, bigger than the engine on most malaysia cars. Harley meetings are weird, there is a load of young guys hanging around, wondering why they aren’t out parting, and a bunch of middle aged guys hanging around, wondering why they aren’t at home with their wives…

Had a quick beer with him before heading off to T-club, haven’t been there before, it was pretty quiet and not too crowded, plenty of food and beer, which was nice, and a bit of dancing.

Saw a few interesting sites..

1). The pukeworthy chick, a chick with enough flesh to sucessfully cover a larger part of south-east asia whilst lying flat…She had some horrible kind of top on that was open in huge flares at both sides exposing her wobbly, stretch marked love handles pouring out over the waist-band of her trousers…yes…I almost retched.

2). Let’s call him 80’s dude, flashback man, makes us white-boys look bad. SOMEONE CALL THE FASHION POLICE. For me the 80’s was the worst decade for fashion fullstop, bad hair, bad clothes, horrible makeup. So 80’s dude, straight cut black overdied levis, white and light blue pinstrip long-sleeve shirt tucked into the jeans, plain white t-shirt under the shirt, bouffant hairdo. And danced completely like someone out of an 80’s MTV video…multiple pirouettes, over-exaggerated hands in the hair and all.

3). A group of fat chaps pretending to argue (very loudly) and make themselves look tough, although it just made them look like a bunch of pricks. What’s the obsession with trying to look like some hood dwelling bronx nigga anyway? You probably were born in suburbia, you have 1-2 siblings, you are going to medical school, I mean wtf, not like you been shot in the face like 50 cent. If you saw a real gun you’d probably drop a load in your pants. Get a clue, and put your cap on straight.

4). A slightly large chick that was still damn hot, shows if you know how to dress, how to hold yourself, how to dance, you can still be big and hot, like a slightly larger, less skanky version of Britney Spears.

5). The Irish Car-bomb, no not the real one the drink, never seen/heard of it before, it’s half pint of Guiness stout and a double shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream..You drop the serving of Bailey’s inside the Guiness glass (glass and all, you don’t pour the baileys in), then down the lot in one shot…and yes, it does work like a bomb, it blows your head off. Tastes kinda nice and weird too.

Anyway it was quite fun…and I’m off to Zoukfest tonight, which is gonna rox0r my s0x0rs. See you there! Everyone is going I think, including me, Kim, KY, Faggot, Suan, FireAngel, God, JoJo, P h 3 R o X i 4, and about 30 others, I think our group and it’s extended groups is way over 50.

8000 people, sounds like a party!

Then Sunday I have some wedding dinner to go to, and Monday evening I have to submit some big ass document at work, which I really need to work on, on Sunday…

Man this is gonna be a kick-ass busy weekend.

Also officially got some spanking new 512MB DDR 400mhz RAM, my PC is flying now, I think this is officially the first time I’ve posted from this PC, all previous was from the Laptop.

Disturbing..

Why didn’t they run?

Why didn’t anyone run?

Photographs from the camera of a Canadian couple killed in Asia’s tsunami include their final shots of a huge wave as it rushed toward them at their beach resort in Thailand.

Source: CNN

The final pictures from the camera

Kind of morbid really. Makes you wonder..

Shows you how tough memory cards are though, reminds me of a study they did, memory cards can take a ridiculous amount of punshiment and still keep the data intact. Shame Digital Cameras are rather frail in comparison.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3939333.stm They were dipped into cola, put through a washing machine, dunked in coffee, trampled by a skateboard, run over by a child’s toy car and given to a six-year-old boy to destroy.

Perhaps surprisingly, all the cards survived these six tests.

Most of them did fail to get through two additional tests – being smashed by a sledgehammer and being nailed to a tree.

Even then, data experts Ontrack Data Recovery were able to retrieve photos from the xD and Smartmedia cards.

Hmm indeed.
