Well there’s not many things I love more on a Sunday afternoon than having some GOOD banana leaf rice.
Apologies for the lack of pictures, there are relatively few for me, being a camera-ho and all..
I was just too freaking hungry and as it was banana leaf, I was sticking my fingers in and eating, rather than taking pictures so my hands were in no state for taking pictures.
So I piled over to Kanna, one of my favourite places for banana leaf rice in SS2 (near the new Paris if you know where that is).
And got me some nice clean and clear banana leaves!
Got the normal rice and gravy with some vege etc..and went a bit mad ordering other stuff, including prawn curry, mutton curry with gravy, deep fried fish eggs, fried chicken and fried squid. The fried stuff at Kanna is very good!
Even friendly personalised delivery service, the squid is a good portion, and daym it tastes good!
It’s a nice looking scene, you get to sit in the fresh air under a bunch of trees.
Of course I ate much more than I generally should…but well, it was REALLY good.
And finished it all of with a Lychee dessert, nice and light to cleanse the pallet!
All in all, a VERY satisfying mean, but well not cheap due to ordering an excess of additional dishes, but I really enjoyed it, so for about RM20 per person I think it’s worth it.
I love kanna! Do you know if it rains they provide umbrella service! This place rocks!! 🙂
Thanks for the tip – will bring my mates there one of these days. How much is the basic banana leaf meal, btw?
Never had it tbh mate, but I’d guess it’s 6-8RM for the basics.
Yes, I love Kanna too esp the deep fried sotong which is the best in town.
over ordered? kim musta been there.
Those pictures are simply disturbing. They’ll come back to haunt me in the few minutes before the breaking of my fast.
Me hungry.
Too much stimulus! I’m salivating and my stomach is making all kinds of ‘feed me that!’ noises….sigh! Too bad Kanna’s is 4 hours flight away ;(
tiu
One thing I don’t like about Kanna is the way in which its waiters push food at you – especially desserts and those little plates of kari mutton, chicken, etc…
Some of these bastards just put the stuff on your table and walk away before you can tell them that you don’t want it.
This is a problem if you’re bringing some friends who are first-time visitors to the place – especially if you’re in a big group. They’ll think you’ve ordered the food and begin to eat some of it…
Other than that… yeah, the food’s great.
It’s also come to my attention that we seem to eat at the same restaurants though I’ve never bumped into you before… -_-
I wonder what was going through that Indian man’s head when you asked him to pose with the dish :p…
Kanna,
their fried stuff are great but it cost a bomb to eat there.
Gee those dishes make my stomach growl.. makes me miss malaysian food more!
You really should try this place, a very humble one though, but LOVELY food. Its in PJ Old Town, a foodcourt like kinda place beside the market (opposite the Leela Ratos clinic). Its a “foodcourt stall” operated by two sisters. Its called Gerai Makanan Usha. I find their Crab Curry to be out of this world. But they dont have it everyday. So you have to try your luck. Pretty cheap too!
I didn’t ask him to pose tbh..
I was just taking picture of the food, I don’t usually take pictures of people, not my style, but he stood there holding the plate like “Boss boss, 1 more”…After that he hung around hoping for more pics, so I put the camera away haha.
i like kanna when its near 2.30 pm that means ACHA is closing.
other than tat, i’ll be at Acha enjoying his mother-in-law.
His Bone Marrow,
price almost the same
Hi tiger, I sent you a mail requesting for food advice. Have you received it? If not, I’ll send again.
It’s my favorite restaurant! But I usually only go there during week days for lunch. Best service in town too. Gosh! I’ve got to go there tomorrow.
Kanna has great food but I thought the tofu lychee dessert was somewhat expensive (at RM2 I think) for such a small portion.
Hi yeah, I got it, but I’m out of office for the next 2 months, and my PC at home is out for the moment, so don’t expect me to reply so fast 😉
Acha no fried stuff, well not so good anyway, prefer Kanna.
Just Acha more fun sometimes.
Still the best of all is in Masek Jamek near the LRT station in a little back street.
Everyone sits side by side as there’s only 2 long tables in the whole place.
Dude, you gotta let me buy you lunch at Sri Paandi’s (Near University Hospital P.J.) some Sunday.
Your site rocks!
Yeah, these guys are the undisputed champions of Banana Leaf Rice! I never knew they had one in SS2 since the original is so close – in Sec 17! But they’re spreading like wildfire now. There’s one near my place in Bandar Manjalara, Kepong. Yay!
Where abouts in Menjalara dude? Just across the road from me, lovely Japanese Sushi restaurant there!
If you come in from Jalan Kepong, you’ll come to the turning to Maluri on the left and the mosque on your right. Ignore that. Just go straight till you come to the roundabout, where the school is. Take 12 o’clock on the roundabout and make a right at the first junction. There’s only a row of shops there. On one end you have that famous crab place and on the other, Kanna!
BTW, the Japanese place – it’s the one in Medan Putra, rite?
ST, we both live at SD, and now u’re hanging out at mid valley. and hell u frequent my fave place.. how cum nvr see u around arr? anyway Kanna is heavenlyyyyyy
been in australia for about 10 months now, and just looking at the banana leaf….o my miss it like crayzee
You don’t keep your eyes open?
Plenty of people spot the oh so famous SHAOLINLOFUOMG!
And well I don’t know what you look like to spot you 😉
I’d come from LDP, into Menjalara, not so sure of the back way yet.
The Jap place from LDP = turn in from LDP, go up the hill, 12 o’clock at the roundabout, then up ahead take a left, into a road parallel to some shops lots, then jap place is inside on your left.
Hi ST. Its me again. I wrote earlier to see if you had received my mail (through your ‘contact me’). I wanted your expert food advise for some UK friends coming next year – they can’t eat spicy food.
OOpppss…..sorry…. I just read your reply to me…..
sorry again…..
uh… dont you mean ‘cleanse your palate’? 😛 i know, im being nitpicky.
The backlane shop near masjid jamek is called Kettinggi. Thats the best indian food i’ve ever eaten here. Try out their goat’s intestines curry next time 🙂 If you’re lucky sometimes they have blood curry.
And in Kanna’s try telling the frying-guy to cut up the chicken before frying it with curry leaves and lotsa onions. The tiny pieces of chicken would be more crispy and and the added flavour from the curry leaves is just amazing. Too bad not many ppl know abt this.
Yummilicious food.
