Indeed, thank fuck it’s Friday.
The weekend dawns again, another week of bending over and taking the corporate cock shaft is over.
2 more days and the inevitable cycle will begin again.
We ask ourselves during those periods of reflection, why do we do it? The answer is simple, to earn money, to eat, to buy shiny things, to buy things that blink and beep and do all kinds of interesting stuff.
Everyone has their own view on it, some people seem to live to work, their work is their life, now this line of thinking, I really can’t comprehend and definately can’t subscribe to. Why sacrifice all else for a job, or a career or whatever you want to label it?
If it’s your own company, I can understand, been there done that, you have to work hard to get returns, if you are seeing direct benefits from your sweat, blood and tears then by all means do it. If it’s NOT your company, and you don’t even have shares, or any part of a profit distribution scheme, then what’s the point?
What I always say is..
Work smart, NOT hard.
Some people choose to go totally the other way, those amongst us that are less material and less egotistical, they choose to work as little as possible, make the most of their money and enjoy life to the max without earnings thousands and driving a BMW. I can respect this and probably admire these people most of all, my mother is one of these people, she has never worked full time and probably never well, she earns enough to keep her own house and a new-ish car and to travel all around the world, she doesn’t buy expensive clothes or anything, but the house is nice, mostly filled with old furniture she has bought cheaply from charity shops and restored.
For me this is better than the alternative, losing friends, family and loved ones for work, at the end of it what do you get? A nice house, a flashy car a shitload of bills and a feeling of personal satisfaction? When in fact your life has become hollow, you have become what you earn and what you own, nothing more, nothing less.
I have always done enough to get by, to get to the next level, this was also my thinking in studying, you could call it efficiency I guess. Some people are into going the extra mile, but I say what’s the point in doing more than you need to? Do what you do and do it well, that’s more than enough already.
For me luckily I am in field I enjoy, but I don’t always get to do what I want to do, this is life and this is the corporate world, you end up doing other peoples jobs, why? Because they are incapable of doing it, but why me? Apparently I am one of those people that has a label on their forehead saying “I can do anything”. Which is probably true, I am capable, but it doesn’t mean I want to do it.
Basically the moral is as always we work because we have to, not because we want to, don’t sacrifice priceless things (friends, relationship, family) for the sake of career advancement or material goods, money as you well know by now does not equate to happiness. I agree you have to be happy with yourself before you can be happy with anyone else, or they can be happy with you, but just take a look around, take a look in the mirror, if you stick your head too deep into work, when you pull it out, everything else will be gone.
Work is work is work..
Let’s get paid and let’s get laid.
I’m gonna hang out with my wang out.
I’m gonna rock out with my cock out.
Party on.
P.S. This is the monumental 100th post!
